Reflections From A Madricha:
Triteen Summer Experience

Shelley Farahan

This July I was lucky enough to be a Madricha (counselor) for the Triteen trip to Israel and Hungary through the Jewish Federation. High school students from America, Hungary, and Israel came together for the trip. We began the program in Israel, where we stayed for nine days. We toured Jerusalem and the Western Galilee. For the following twelve days, we went to a Jewish camp in Hungary called Szarvas. Our last weekend was spent in Budapest. I started the program as a stranger to 26 students and three madrichim and ended the trip with 29 new best friends. Looking back, I know that exploring Jewish history with Jews from around the world offered me a completely new perspective on both my American and Jewish identities.

A Visit to the Western Galilee

    Freddie Kelvin

This month, I was fortunate enough-as an artist member of the JFGI Arts Task Force within our Central Area Consortium — to spend three wonderful days as the guest of our Partners in the Western Galilee.

The Western Galilee is not only a treasure trove of the arts and education, but it is also a region infused with a tranquil beauty all of its own. The area is rich in history, best exemplified by Akko-with its ancient Crusader city — as well as many remains from other ages.

      Are you a "Desert Queen?"

      October 26 through November 2, 2010

What is Desert Queen? It's a jeep expedition for women. Yes, it includes driving in the gorgeous Negev desert, some hiking, some biking, sleeping in Bedouin Tents, and lots of other surprises in the many stops we make along the way. But most of all, it's about Israeli women spending quality time with women from overseas Jewish communities. It's an opportunity for all of us Jewish women to share our personal perspective on everyday life, about Israel, and so much more. Desert Queen is an incredibly fun yet touching women-to-women experience.
