Welcome to Indianapolis!

Shalom! Bienvenue! Bienvenidos! Dobro Pozhalovat!

The city of Indianapolis is the capital of Indiana and the largest urban center in the state.

It is home to about one million people.

Indianapolis, commonly known as Indy, is the 12th largest city in the United States. More than 65 percent of the U.S. population lives within a 700 mile radius of Indianapolis. More interstates converge in Indianapolis than in any other city in the United States, which makes it one of America’s most accessible cities, dubbed “Crossroads of America.” (Indianapolis Visitors and Convention Bureau) Indianapolis also boasts the largest Children’s Museum in the world and is home to the Colts football team. Stretching from Downtown to 146th Street, the Monon Trail is the premier destination for biking, running, rollerblading and walking.

The Greater Indianapolis Area is a frequently used term. It refers to Indianapolis proper and the surrounding cities, including Carmel, Westfield, Fishers, Noblesville, Brownsburg, Zionsville, Avon, Greenwood, Lawrence and Greenfield.

Indianapolis has the largest Jewish population in the state – more than 10,000. Most live in the city of Indianapolis and its northern suburbs. The Jewish Federation (6705 Hoover Road), Jewish Community Center (6701 Hoover Road), Hooverwood Jewish Home (7001 Hoover Road) and the Bureau of Jewish Education (6711 Hoover Road) are located at the heart of the Jewish community and within walking distance from three of the five synagogues. The Hasten Hebrew Academy of Indianapolis, a Jewish day school with K-8 classes is located across the street. And you’ll find a large selection of kosher food at the Marsh Supermarket just minutes from the JCC.

Indianapolis is a vibrant, growing Jewish community. As the community increases in size, so do our offerings.
